The American Municipal Pipe Organ Website is the brainchild of Will Scarboro who has spent the last 15 years collecting and compiling information about municipal pipe organs in the United States. Mr. Scarboro first became interested in municipal organs after hearing a recital on the 1931 M.P. Möller organ, opus 5819 installed in the Philadelphia Municipal Auditorium. The encounter with this instrument propelled him to begin conducting research on municipal organs with the hopes that a book could be written on the subject.
In 2005, Mr. Scarboro began to share some of his research on a small webpage. This small step led ultimately to the creation of a dedicated website (municipalorgans.net) on the topic which opened in 2008. Today, the American Municipal Pipe Organ Website continues to preserve the rich legacy of the municipal pipe organ in the United States.
